LDAP Fault-tolerance configuration (e.g SunOne) -

ldap fault-tolerance configuration (e.g sunone): anyboby know how configuration "fault-tolerance" ldap, e.g sunone ldap.

i search via google without userful result?

thanks

assuming, "fault tolerance," "high availability (ha)" being asked, can achieved redundancy. and, not peculiar sunone or directory server software other vendors.

there different ways solve this. depends on business requirements , affordability. 1 method comes mind have ldap software installed on ha pair. requires hardware , os capabilities fail-over , requires 2 servers (in world of virtualization, "server" can mean different things [physical box, frame, lpar, etc.]; so, i'll leave interpretation reader). when 1 server fails, other server takes on , assumes primary role in pair. fault-tolerance part. in approach, machine/server secondary role passive (i.e., it's not serving clients) until primary goes down. need implement ldap data replication between 2 servers. can 2 ldap masters in p2p replication topology.

another method have multiple ldap servers (i.e., masters, replicas) , cluster them using network dispatcher (nd) software/appliance/etc., distribute incoming traffic individual servers (usually replicas) in cluster. if lose 1 replica in cluster, nd not send traffic replica until comes back. however, other replicas still receiving load , therefore serving incoming traffic. fault-tolerance part in method. degree of availability want dictate can done in clustered environment. can have single ldap master (to organization's applications make updates) , keep out of cluster, pair server fail-over (so wouldn't lose availability updates applications - gives freedom maintenance on master without interrupting application's [well, need written able write more 1 ldap master if primary 1 not available]). have have secondary server receive replication primary in case. if budget doesn't let have more servers/replicas, can put master server along replicas in cluster read traffic. instead of ha-pair in 1 of servers passive, can have 2 masters configured in p2p replication topology , have them both in cluster traffic too. there different ways approach method depending on level of redundancy wanted or can afforded.
